The Pagan
Flash fiction
You
wake up, just like every day, and put on your hammer neckless, think about who
will judge and bully. You are told your different, a huge mistake for being
pagan. Many people will say your evil, others will ask why you’re not
Christian? You’ll simply tell them Christianity doesn’t speak to you as Asatru
spoke to you, you’ll add a little history behind the relationship between the
pagans/heathens and Christians but only to be told “your wrong”. Your friends
aren’t pagan, and neither is most the people you know, the only people that are
pagan like you is your mother and a friend on Facebook. But lucky you your
friends don’t care if you Christian or pagan, they cheer you up make you feel
like you’re not a mistake your told you are. At the end of the day through all
the hate, you feel happy about the choices you’ve made. You chose great friends
and a less well-known religion. But even with that said and done you can’t help
but wonder why people see you wrong. You can handle pain but at the end of the
day the question will never leave you brain. Every day when you go home you go
out into the woods and fell at home. Nature is calming and great to hear, it
helps release your stress. The sound of nature all around is soothing to your
ears
Artist statement
In the
photo I chose my neckless as the center of attention because it’s a symbol of
my religion, most pagans will have a neckless similar or more of a hammer
shape. There is strips of black and white coming from it because religion
influences most or even all my actions, belief’s, thoughts, ect… I wore a white shirt because It helps show
the neckless more than others I have, I thought it would help focus on the
neckless.
Reflection
Most people believe that Vikings
were blood thirsty savages with a lust for riches. This perception comes from
catholic propaganda to dehumanize the Viking and Scandinavian people, called
Heathens, pagans, Northman etc... It stayed that way until the 19th
and 20th century when they were thought to be noble savages, wore
horned helmets, a proud culture, and a feared prowess in battle.
Ryan
Goodrich, live science contributor, explains that the Vikings were craftsmen,
traders, explorers, farmers, blacksmiths. “when Vikings took time out of there
summer to go on expeditions, there goals were mainly of trade and enlisting as
foreign mercenaries” (Viking history: Facts and myth).
I agree
because Vikings loved trade. When they went to raid a town or village they were
taking things to trade. They were skilled craftsmen, farmers, hunters, and
black smiths. The modern perception that everyone believes came from catholic propaganda
not research.
Cage,
ReplyDeleteThis is a really unique portrait, it definitely represents ideals that are important to you. Like many people at our school, you wear your difference with pride and that's not always easy. But it's a little easier when you have good friends to support you.
It seems important here that you can be a good friend (or acquaintance) without having to agree on everything. That's a concept we should all take time to focus on in our lives.
I know this project was a challenge for you and you got it done. I am proud of you for not giving up. Keep pushing forward!
