The Pagan

Flash fiction
You wake up, just like every day, and put on your hammer neckless, think about who will judge and bully. You are told your different, a huge mistake for being pagan. Many people will say your evil, others will ask why you’re not Christian? You’ll simply tell them Christianity doesn’t speak to you as Asatru spoke to you, you’ll add a little history behind the relationship between the pagans/heathens and Christians but only to be told “your wrong”. Your friends aren’t pagan, and neither is most the people you know, the only people that are pagan like you is your mother and a friend on Facebook. But lucky you your friends don’t care if you Christian or pagan, they cheer you up make you feel like you’re not a mistake your told you are. At the end of the day through all the hate, you feel happy about the choices you’ve made. You chose great friends and a less well-known religion. But even with that said and done you can’t help but wonder why people see you wrong. You can handle pain but at the end of the day the question will never leave you brain. Every day when you go home you go out into the woods and fell at home. Nature is calming and great to hear, it helps release your stress. The sound of nature all around is soothing to your ears

Artist statement
In the photo I chose my neckless as the center of attention because it’s a symbol of my religion, most pagans will have a neckless similar or more of a hammer shape. There is strips of black and white coming from it because religion influences most or even all my actions, belief’s, thoughts, ect…  I wore a white shirt because It helps show the neckless more than others I have, I thought it would help focus on the neckless.

Reflection
Most people believe that Vikings were blood thirsty savages with a lust for riches. This perception comes from catholic propaganda to dehumanize the Viking and Scandinavian people, called Heathens, pagans, Northman etc... It stayed that way until the 19th and 20th century when they were thought to be noble savages, wore horned helmets, a proud culture, and a feared prowess in battle.

Ryan Goodrich, live science contributor, explains that the Vikings were craftsmen, traders, explorers, farmers, blacksmiths. “when Vikings took time out of there summer to go on expeditions, there goals were mainly of trade and enlisting as foreign mercenaries” (Viking history: Facts and myth).

I agree because Vikings loved trade. When they went to raid a town or village they were taking things to trade. They were skilled craftsmen, farmers, hunters, and black smiths. The modern perception that everyone believes came from catholic propaganda not research.

  1. Cage,

This is a really unique portrait, it definitely represents ideals that are important to you. Like many people at our school, you wear your difference with pride and that's not always easy. But it's a little easier when you have good friends to support you.

It seems important here that you can be a good friend (or acquaintance) without having to agree on everything. That's a concept we should all take time to focus on in our lives.

I know this project was a challenge for you and you got it done. I am proud of you for not giving up. Keep pushing forward!

Flash fiction AJ Wenger       Get out of bed and go to school. Don’t roll over and reset your alarm for another 10 minutes you know that 10 minutes is going to turn into an hour or two. You feel at the time that the extra sleep is so needed until you realize everything your missing at school will need to be made up. you know you’ll get that extra hour of sleep thinking its going to make you feel better the rest of the day but really when you get out of bed you’ll be bored and wished you would’ve gone. Every time you do this to yourself you start to get stressed out and wonder all day what you’re going to tell your parents when the attendance office calls them at 6. After all that stress you’ll go through a whole other wave of stress wondering when and how you can make up for the 7 classes you missed. By the end of the day you’ll realize that yet again you’ve accomplished nothing with your day but the thought of doing it all again tomorrow still is lingering in the b...

Dumb Decisions

Ben Bjornsen Flash Fiction: I am broke, because #race car. Artist Statement: My self-portrait is about my spending all my money on my hobby which is cars. I got into cars from my grandpa when I was a little kid. I didn’t realize how expensive stuff is, so I have no more money. My picture is me on my car in the Kennedy  parking lot looking sad because I spent my money on my car. My car represents where all my money goes. I took it in the Kennedy  parking lot because i don't have a real job that pays well because I go to school. They Say/I Say: People think about bias as an argument   toward  what they believe in even if it doesn't  make sense or is wrong.  Also, some people think they aren’t bias in anyway, but really they are. People will want to be like this because if they are wrong about something, they will do whatever it takes to make you believe their bias not on purpose. But the truth is people do have a bias for something...

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity Artist statement I pick this image because this shows my personality and my mood during my everyday life. The image and text work together to show you that I like to be happy and positive and not be negative all the time. The color and brightness work together to represent positivity.  Reflection People don’t think about that they have a bias. They don’t think about that because they don’t react, and they don’t think about what there saying or what they think about a certain person. For example, When I was a kid, I thought people were always respectful and kind to others and I thought that no one had a bias. I thought this because people were always nice when I said hi to them. People always opened the door for me and they always said thank you. Nice but I realized growing up people have a certain bias. For example, in perspectives, the class taught me that everyone has a bias and that everyone’s bias is different from other people a...
