Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity
Artist statement
I pick this image because this shows my personality and my mood during my everyday life. The image and text work together to show you that I like to be happy and positive and not be negative all the time. The color and brightness work together to represent positivity.
 Reflection
People don’t think about that they have a bias. They don’t think about that because they don’t react, and they don’t think about what there saying or what they think about a certain person. For example, When I was a kid, I thought people were always respectful and kind to others and I thought that no one had a bias. I thought this because people were always nice when I said hi to them. People always opened the door for me and they always said thank you. Nice but I realized growing up people have a certain bias. For example, in perspectives, the class taught me that everyone has a bias and that everyone’s bias is different from other people and that everyone has different way of acting towards there bias.
Verna Meyer’s Ted Talk about “How we overcome bias” should approach whatever our bias is differently. “it’s not about perfection, it’s about connection” (Meyers). Which means that when a person approaches a black or a different race or whatever their bias is we should make a connection. We should or react differently toward whoever it is with confidence and positivity. But they don’t know they have that bias. Perfection where we are not color blind and we don’t do anything wrong to other people with different religion’s or race.

Because of what I’ve learned from the past 8 weeks and from all the bias pieces I’ve looked I’ve learned that everyone has a bias and that everyone’s bias is different from other people and that everyone has a different way of acting towards there bias. I agree with Verna Meyers that we should approach someone with negativity. We should be bold and better when we do approach our bias. Now that I have listened to Verna’s Ted Talk and learned about biases in perspectives, I realized people react before they think about someone. I realized looking back at my childhood and how people act in their minds and what they think about others, people have a different bias. I realized looking back at my childhood and how people are I realized that people don’t know they have a bias when they do, and they don’t react before they think. Another text would be my journal 4. I talked about how I took the bias test and I realized that I had a bias and it surprised me.
If everyone thought and cared they would know and understand their bias. For example, I didn’t know anything about perspectives and bias and I realized that I never really knew I had one.

  1. I really like how this is centered around positvity, and before you even explained that it was about happiness, it was clear because of your self portrait and flash fiction.

  10. I really like how you think people should pursue happiness and block out negativity in their lives. Your portrait really helps push that claim because of how happy you look in it and all of the bright colors. You also did a good job supporting your argument in your reflection with personal experiences and quotations.

  14. Happiness is something not easily achieved for those in despair and dread. Some search for ages for something that makes them happy. If the words in your flash fiction are remembered, it can set someone on the right path to becoming at least a little more happy. The color in your picture really bring out the essence of what happiness could look like. What ties the picture together is your smile. A simple smile can make you better and maybe even someone else. There's a saying I like that kind of goes along with your flash fiction. "Smile more, it looks good on you." I try to remember that everyday.

  15. James:

I tried to fix your text but then I deleted your picture...Super sorry. Can you repost? The pic is totally you! You look great in bright, bold colors and it represents a lot about who you are as you say in your artist statement.

You are one person who a lot of people can count on to be the positivity in the room. We LOVE that about you. I wonder, does it get exhausting? I'm recalling your "visual moment" where you want to snap at a customer at Hyvee. How do you deal when you aren’t feeling positive? Who plays that role for you in your life? Hm…

Your reflection shows the power of what we see when we are growing up and what we don’t see. Hopefully, once we understand how that power as adults, we can be really thoughtful about how we treat people especially young people. I’m glad there are people like you out there to spread the goodness.

    Thanks, James.

    Ms. B

Flash fiction AJ Wenger       Get out of bed and go to school. Don’t roll over and reset your alarm for another 10 minutes you know that 10 minutes is going to turn into an hour or two. You feel at the time that the extra sleep is so needed until you realize everything your missing at school will need to be made up. you know you’ll get that extra hour of sleep thinking its going to make you feel better the rest of the day but really when you get out of bed you’ll be bored and wished you would’ve gone. Every time you do this to yourself you start to get stressed out and wonder all day what you’re going to tell your parents when the attendance office calls them at 6. After all that stress you’ll go through a whole other wave of stress wondering when and how you can make up for the 7 classes you missed. By the end of the day you’ll realize that yet again you’ve accomplished nothing with your day but the thought of doing it all again tomorrow still is lingering in the b...

This is who I am

The Outdoors They say the outdoors is a certain place that only a few groups of people like. They also say that its like home. You underestimate what you can see outdoors and what there is to discover beyond the trees. Most people don’t understand what it’s like to be far away civilization and what it's like to be separated from everyone. Where the nearest cell signal is 20 or more miles away. Some people don’t get the chance to get beyond the city or travel out to a national park or an area with scenic view. Some people say they can’t afford it but most the time you only need simple items to make it out in the outdoors or wilderness. They say it comes with many dangers that can affect someone permanently as a person or if they are by themselves. Everything you do outside will either come with a consequence or a positive feature. You can only live once and doing somethings outdoors can kill you. They still say that technology is destroying our national parks and destroying ...

Taller Mountains to Climb

Taller Mountains to Climb Made it this far, not knowing what the world could bring. Authors Note: I chose this picture of me in Colorado because I believe that there is a deeper meaning than me just standing on a rock. I think the rock can represent a strong start, but you can see in the background of the picture that there are bigger rocks to climb. I think this can relate to my life because I am about to graduate, which can be compared to the rock I am standing on. On the other hand, I know that there are bigger rocks and a bigger meaning to life than just high school. Although high school is a good start there is always those “bigger rocks” or bigger problems that I must climb over. I decided to use a longer 6-word story because it also explains the type of personality I have. I like things short, sweet, and to the point. Taking the class perspectives has opened my view of the deeper meaning in small things and realizing that our personalities reflect the perspec...
