Belief

From small country, with big dream. Artist Statement This picture goes with my personality because I am a confident girl who doesn’t give up easily. My hand position describe that i'm not shy because i am taking my hair away from my face. The black and white color shows that there are two different side of me. The black side shows that my life is not perfect and I also have a problems. The light side of my life shows that I can fight with the darkness and find solution to my problems. I am a girl who was raised by traditional family and my value is based on what they taught me. Reflection People think we all have different perspective based on our own personal experiences we go through, because everyone is from different culture and we experiences different things in life. I agreed with different perspective but I personally believe that we see same situation differently based on how much information is available. We all have different perspective. “Why you think you’re right even if your wrong” trying to show that people need to learn how to feel proud instead of ashamed. Julia Galef use 19th-century France history about Alfred Dreyfus to use as example which was discovered in 1894. Julia Galef said “ They compared Dreyfus handwriting to memo and concluded that was a match” but Dreyfus has no past history of doing anything wrong. Officers also believed that the case against Dreyfus as strong. We are not perfect and we don’t always win but at least don’t go with group, fight for your own belief. The $100 Race video is trying to show that privilege is not only for white people it is for everyone. In the video there wasn’t only black or asian people on back, there was white people too. Everyone go through emotion on their life but it doesn’t mean we should stop right there. I believe based on the information available to me determine my perspective and make a opinion of it. When i was 14 years old I always thought i had to have friends to enjoy the life. I never focus on school because my 8th grade friend told that middle school grade doesn’t matter on college so enjoy your life before going to high school. I thought that information was good enough because i am a girl who trust people easily so I did skip my lots of classes on my last year of middle school.

  1. I really like the way you used your hand to show that you aren't shy. I wish you would've described why your body is turned away from the camera but you're looking at it.

  2. You picture was interesting, the hand being a notable feature. Your reflection is really well written out. Your mention of the case of Alfred Dreyfus helped to strengthen your point about biases being a strong factor in somebody's opinion of someone else.

  4. Pragya:

I love your picture and how it reveals something really important about you. You might be seen as a shy person to some people, but you are brave and confident and have BIG dreams.

You are right, culture has a big impact on who are are. You make the connection that the experiences we have in life are determined in part by what culture we belong to. You are unique because you belong to Nepali and American culture. This gives you special insight that not everybody else gets.

Knowing that you want to be a travel nurse really makes a lot of this reflection make sense to me. You have to be really brave, be a hard worker, and want to help other cultures the best way you can.

Thanks for your hard work, Pragya.

Dumb Decisions

Ben Bjornsen Flash Fiction: I am broke, because #race car. Artist Statement: My self-portrait is about my spending all my money on my hobby which is cars. I got into cars from my grandpa when I was a little kid. I didn’t realize how expensive stuff is, so I have no more money. My picture is me on my car in the Kennedy  parking lot looking sad because I spent my money on my car. My car represents where all my money goes. I took it in the Kennedy  parking lot because i don't have a real job that pays well because I go to school. They Say/I Say: People think about bias as an argument   toward  what they believe in even if it doesn't  make sense or is wrong.  Also, some people think they aren’t bias in anyway, but really they are. People will want to be like this because if they are wrong about something, they will do whatever it takes to make you believe their bias not on purpose. But the truth is people do have a bias for something...

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity Artist statement I pick this image because this shows my personality and my mood during my everyday life. The image and text work together to show you that I like to be happy and positive and not be negative all the time. The color and brightness work together to represent positivity.  Reflection People don’t think about that they have a bias. They don’t think about that because they don’t react, and they don’t think about what there saying or what they think about a certain person. For example, When I was a kid, I thought people were always respectful and kind to others and I thought that no one had a bias. I thought this because people were always nice when I said hi to them. People always opened the door for me and they always said thank you. Nice but I realized growing up people have a certain bias. For example, in perspectives, the class taught me that everyone has a bias and that everyone’s bias is different from other people a...
