Flash fiction AJ Wenger       Get out of bed and go to school. Don’t roll over and reset your alarm for another 10 minutes you know that 10 minutes is going to turn into an hour or two. You feel at the time that the extra sleep is so needed until you realize everything your missing at school will need to be made up. you know you’ll get that extra hour of sleep thinking its going to make you feel better the rest of the day but really when you get out of bed you’ll be bored and wished you would’ve gone. Every time you do this to yourself you start to get stressed out and wonder all day what you’re going to tell your parents when the attendance office calls them at 6. After all that stress you’ll go through a whole other wave of stress wondering when and how you can make up for the 7 classes you missed. By the end of the day you’ll realize that yet again you’ve accomplished nothing with your day but the thought of doing it all again tomorrow still is lingering in the b...

Light and Dark

Is she Kind or Cold? She had always tried to be kind-hearted to everyone. But the reason for the struggle was she also had a dark side that she tried hiding. The side that was negative and judged everyone and anything she saw. It felt like the dark side of her had always tried to control her and her life, yet, it felt like her light side was over powering the dark. When she judged, the light side seemed to have make her feel guilty. Artist statement This picture is of me with a dark half and a light half. The idea for it is that I and pretty much all people have a good side and a bad side. In the picture, I edited it to make these sides ‘visible’. So, the story of it is that since people have two sides, some listen more to the good and some listen more to the bad. But in the story, I suppose that I’m explaining more of a guilty conscience. When I think of light and dark, for some strange reason, I think of the colors blue and red. So, the blended background images are ...

The Adventure -Courtney Baker

Flash Fiction    She craves the ocean, and the adventure …   She craves the freedom and carelessness    The danger and the unknown    The vastness and  loneliness;  its  wh ere  she her  finds  comfort...   Artist Statement    The image I chose is a photograph. It is of me kayaking in the ocean, but the background and colors are distorted, because the ocean makes it feel like reality is altered and it doesn’t seem like real life  to me . My flash fiction piece  attempts to explain the desire and the feeling of the vast ocean. How it makes people feel so small, and the world so big at the same time. The picture tries to  p ut the flash fiction into words and the flash fiction tries to explain the picture .     Reflection  People often think that their identity is something that they decided and created. They  believe  that...

My Path

My Path           Flash Fiction It has been said that we don’t meet people by accident, they are meant to cross our paths for a reason. Although sometimes people will only enter your life for a very short amount of time to simply teach you a lesson. People often say that every person you meet has a purpose of being there because we often learn from the people that surround us. We meet people who play different roles and serve different purposes.  The people we meet are not by chance, some are meant to awaken us and initiate change. Those who remind us of our goals and what we truly want in life. Those we help us grow, they teach us things we are unable to learn by ourselves. Those that hold space for us, aka small talk and no true connection. Then those that stick with us through it all. These people are very rare, they often share the same mission as you. You must be strong believer that, “Everything happened for a reason” in or...

Humans

This is how you are born, this is how you live, this is how you enjoy whatever time you have left, this is how you don’t let the dread set in… DON’T LET IT! This is how to enjoy eating, this is how you enjoy your life and who you are.      The theme I to create with my picture was you need to enjoy life as much as you can without hurting yourself with a little comedy. The “dread” in the comic is to symbolize that life will end at some point. The way that I helped the picture with the text is I went with a more comedy piece to show there is good in life, there is fun, but you can bring yourself down just by thinking. You should love yourself and not worry what else life will throw at you.     When people think about bias they think it is an easy thing to overcome. That they don’t have to try and can change how they think about something in an instant. When in reality you either have to try so much and nothing will change or you will...

The effects of Bias and False stereotypes

Flash Fiction – As a person’s age goes up, his/her innocence goes down, and false stereotypes and biases take its place. Artist Statement- Younger kids don’t understand how the real world works, me as 16-year-old having seen a glimpse of the real world have my doubts about my compatibility and my future responsibilities. Young kids are innocent because they have not yet encountered the society that scars your mind with false preexisting stereotypes and false biases. Young kids between the age of 4 to 10 seem to have the most innocence because of the lack of time spent in the world. Society has a heavy influence on a person, it changes them either for the better or for the worse. So younger kids have little to no bias and adding to their all loving personality are just the thing we need in today’s world. The image of me talking to my younger self-advising them not to change and falling under the influence of soci...

A Generational Movement

A Generational Change- Sophia Meador Flash Fiction: They tell us we don't have to work for anything; We can't see anything beyond our cell phones; We don't care about anything that doesn't concern us; Our generation is doomed. And maybe they're right. But then explain to me how you don't see us working each day just so we can afford a secondary education? Do you understand that technology is the worlds prime source of communication? And that our generation happens to be the most tech savvy generation yet? Oh, and have you not seen us at rallies for school shootings, woman's rights, and black lives matter? Maybe our generation is doomed, but maybe if you took off your black and white glasses, you could see that we're the generation that will change the world. Artist Statement: Generation Z consist of people born between 1995-2010, and contributes to nearly 25% of the world's population. Unlike our preceding generations, we have not...
