Love and Passion

Flash Fiction And Artist Statement

Why? Why did you hit the ball so hard? What would you expect to happen? Why didn’t you listen? If you would have listened you would’ve probably not regret it. You hit that ball so hard over the net that day you couldn’t believe it. You were doing so well, you scored your team a goal, it made you feel loved hearing your teammates cheer and your family cheer. But when you walked to that penalty spot and hit that ball over the net you didn’t feel love anymore. You blamed yourself. When your captain told you if you wanted to take the penalty you could have said no. You wanted to prove yourself because people look down on you but you just proved that your just a mess up. You thought everyone was disappointed in you. You cried after the game because this is the sport you love and have a passion for. You felt empty. You lost your confidence. Professional players miss penalties. Don’t worry about it. Remember your successes not your failures. After all its just one game, you’ll get through this.

Artist Statement

My images and writing is showing and describing a personal event I’ve had playing soccer the sport I’m passionate of. The first image shows me looking down at my soccer ball on the penalty spot in front of the goal and the second picture  I’m trying to show how I felt being on that penalty spot, the nerves and self-doubt. The text is trying to show a picture in your head of how I thought it was the end of the world and that disappointment on myself. The picture of me with the ball at the penalty spot and the writing work together the same way in that they’re both based on the penalty spot and the picture with the ball in my hands work the same way in that it goes with the writing in that self-doubting/disappointed way. Perspectives has influenced my self portrait in a way that people may look and see certain things differently and in my writings over the semester, seeing responses of what people thought of, it was just kind of cool I guess.

Reflection

People may think of personality and perspectives as hard to comprehend but easy to do in day to day life. For example, someone may see something in the clouds that looks like a dog but from someone else’s perspective they might see it as something completely different. They might think of things this way because of events that maybe happened in their lifetime with the things they have seen or maybe in with their dreams.

Nicolas Cole, wrote an article on perspectives called, “Change Your Perspective, Change Your Life” and he talks about how there is “nothing right or wrong” and that “you are successful when you are walking your path, always learning, always growing. You are doing what you love when you see every moment as an opportunity. It's on you to discover what that opportunity is” (Cole).

I my mind, I think of personality as everyone is different but to a certain extent. No one looks at things the same way or takes things being said the same way unless they have been grown up in the type of environment where those things being said are normal to them or the things they see are normal to them as well. But every person has some sort of characteristic that makes themselves different from everyone else.

  6. The flash fiction is pretty powerful, I connected with the mentioning of being loved when you're successful but disappointed when you fail.

  7. I like how your flash fiction is as if you’re having a conversation with yourself and it relates to your picture very well.

  8. I really like the your finale statements in your I say paragraph. When reflecting on personality, I think it really is different for everyone. If no one has the same personality, then who's to say that personality can even be the same aspect or role for everyone.
Also, I thought your artist statement was very well written. I think the scenario you went through is something that most people can probably relate to. It's important that we learn from these challenges and not be ashamed of messing up.

Flash fiction AJ Wenger       Get out of bed and go to school. Don’t roll over and reset your alarm for another 10 minutes you know that 10 minutes is going to turn into an hour or two. You feel at the time that the extra sleep is so needed until you realize everything your missing at school will need to be made up. you know you’ll get that extra hour of sleep thinking its going to make you feel better the rest of the day but really when you get out of bed you’ll be bored and wished you would’ve gone. Every time you do this to yourself you start to get stressed out and wonder all day what you’re going to tell your parents when the attendance office calls them at 6. After all that stress you’ll go through a whole other wave of stress wondering when and how you can make up for the 7 classes you missed. By the end of the day you’ll realize that yet again you’ve accomplished nothing with your day but the thought of doing it all again tomorrow still is lingering in the b...

Dumb Decisions

Ben Bjornsen Flash Fiction: I am broke, because #race car. Artist Statement: My self-portrait is about my spending all my money on my hobby which is cars. I got into cars from my grandpa when I was a little kid. I didn’t realize how expensive stuff is, so I have no more money. My picture is me on my car in the Kennedy  parking lot looking sad because I spent my money on my car. My car represents where all my money goes. I took it in the Kennedy  parking lot because i don't have a real job that pays well because I go to school. They Say/I Say: People think about bias as an argument   toward  what they believe in even if it doesn't  make sense or is wrong.  Also, some people think they aren’t bias in anyway, but really they are. People will want to be like this because if they are wrong about something, they will do whatever it takes to make you believe their bias not on purpose. But the truth is people do have a bias for something...

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity Artist statement I pick this image because this shows my personality and my mood during my everyday life. The image and text work together to show you that I like to be happy and positive and not be negative all the time. The color and brightness work together to represent positivity.  Reflection People don’t think about that they have a bias. They don’t think about that because they don’t react, and they don’t think about what there saying or what they think about a certain person. For example, When I was a kid, I thought people were always respectful and kind to others and I thought that no one had a bias. I thought this because people were always nice when I said hi to them. People always opened the door for me and they always said thank you. Nice but I realized growing up people have a certain bias. For example, in perspectives, the class taught me that everyone has a bias and that everyone’s bias is different from other people a...
