Flash Fiction:
Artist Statement:
My self-portrait is about my spending all my money on my hobby which is cars. I got into cars from my grandpa when I was a little kid. I didn’t realize how expensive stuff is, so I have no more money. My picture is me on my car in the Kennedy parking lot looking sad because I spent my money on my car. My car represents where all my money goes. I took it in the Kennedy parking lot because i don't have a real job that pays well because I go to school.
They Say/I Say:
People think about bias as an argument toward what they believe in even if it doesn't make sense or is wrong. Also, some people think they aren’t bias in anyway, but really they are. People will want to be like this because if they are wrong about something, they will do whatever it takes to make you believe their bias not on purpose. But the truth is people do have a bias for something even if they think they don’t know it.
I have listened and read a couple texts about bias, and what I have heard from them is people do have a bias. One podcast I listened to said things about bias referring to people thinking they don’t have a bias, but they really do. They said in the podcast, “people ignored test when it challenged their views”. This quote shows that people don’t want to believe that they have a bias towards something, but they do towards some things.
When we took the test in class I did the bias test about black and white people. I found that I associate good with white people and bad with black people. I don't think its a racist thing its just my bias because i'm hardly ever around black people. This is how I know people have a sub-conscience bias.

i like the picture and i think the artist statement is put together well
ReplyDeleteI can relate to this a lot because I feel like every time I spend money on my car there's something else to pay for and its a never ending cycle. I like how you talked about something you really enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteI liked the picture a lot because I feel like it shows how much you care about your car and how it is hard to deal with spending your money on your car. I also really liked the flash fiction because I thought it was a good representation of the life you're choosing to live with your car.
ReplyDeleteI like how you talked about something you care about, but also how it negatively impacts your life. The artist statement really brought your flash fiction and portrait together.
ReplyDeletethe photo itself is very interesting ben, I like the way you pose sadly on the thing that is making you sad (the car).. but doesn't it also make you happy? do you feel some sense of gratification from seeing what all your money went to? or do you regret making the decision to spend all your money and that one thing and wish you wouldn't have? This piece poses a lot of questions which are all amazing because you were able to make myself and I am sure everyone else who read it wonder how you feel behind those hands. it was a great piece and a great flash fiction, short and descriptive. good work!

ReplyDeleteI like how the photo creates the story itself, it shows how passionate you are about the car and how much you love just having it in your possession.
ReplyDeleteYour picture stood out to me as I was scrolling because it's well edited. In your artist statement I could relate to you because I used to spend all my money on another certain thing, but I realized that I should be saving at least half of it.
ReplyDeleteCool picture that has its own story but makes a lot of sense when you put your artist statement and flash fiction with it. Putting your money into the things you like is good ad your story behind that is interesting.
ReplyDeleteYour picture really stands out to me! Why did you decide to edit the photo like that? I also really like how simple your flash fiction is, it stands out to me, loving the hashtag!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your picture because i took it. I can relate to this because my hobby is cars too and its an expensive hobby.
ReplyDeletenice details on the picture I think its the most artistic one ive seen.
ReplyDeleteI really like your picture and they way you edited it and then how you go on to talk about your passion but its hurting at the same time.
ReplyDeleteYour portrait is amazing. I tried doing something like that for an art class I took and it didn't turn out nearly as good as that. I love how you used the spacing to create shading that looks realistic, and the detail in the picture is amazing as well.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you changed the photo. I also love how you brought out the feeling with your picture.
ReplyDeleteHow did your grandpa get you hooked on cars in the first place? The image is one of the best ones that I have seen.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a good job showing how much your car means to you in your artist statement and flash fiction. I thought it was interesting how what you like to do also makes you sad, but I understand it because it's always nice to have money. Your self-portrait was eye catching and I enjoyed looking at it. What was your reasoning for editing it the way you did?
ReplyDeleteYour picture did a great job of showing the complexity of your emotions, while also capturing a great deal of environmental details, like the textures of the ground and the trees. What you did with the image was very creative and I haven't really seen anything else like it.
ReplyDeleteThe portrait has a deep meaning and when it is combined with your flash fiction it becomes even deeper. I feel your pain as I know the investment cost and time it takes to mod your car. Overall this is a good and a well thought out blog and it applies to me on a personal level.
