Colored eyes

                                                                        Flash

They see the world in black and white. They do not see the beauty in life.
“You see the world as a masterpiece, make it one
The world is so beautiful, I don’t think I can.
“How are you going to change it?
 I Don’t know how.

                                                           Artist statement

In the photo of me is shaded out to emphasize the color in my eyes and neck. To help draw the viewer to the part of the photo I want them to. The color in my eyes is to represent how I see the world and the ideas I have. The faint color in my neck is to show how I found a way to express the beauty in the world I see. When I wrote my flash fiction it was supposed to be a conversation. A young person being told they can change the world. But they do not know how. Not realizing they need to find that out themselves.

The connection between these two pieces is a story. A story of a person or in my case a boy finding a way to express the beauty they see in the world. The young person does not know how to express himself. But realizes slowly that he does have a way to do so his voice it’s not an extraordinary voice, but it will do.

                                                           They say I say

Most people think they understand what personality is. ‘It's who a person is’ some say. "It’s what makes them who they are."  But ask someone if a person can change and many will say ‘no people never change’ or "not really.' But many do not realize that, not even the science community understands what personality is, but that there is only theories, not real fact.

In basic there are not facts there are only theories. The two main theories are Psychoanalytic by Freud and the Humanistic by Maslow.  Psychoanalytic, Freud he thought that there were three different parts of your brain in a conflict. The biological, rational and educated needs are always fighting for the rule of the mind. The other theory by Maslow, that states that people have base needs. That as each of those needs are met, you go up the pyramid more specific needs are next to meet. The theory also explains that, personality is constantly changing, and anyone can and will change. Both theories have their flaws. Where Freud’s look is very out dated now, Maslow’s  has holes. There is still no way to see which one is true.

What I have learned like in Maslow’s theory, personality is a simple thing. Personality delegates who you are as a person and not what actions you take in life. It helps guide you in your decision making, but does not make it for you. I believe your personality can change. Whether it be, due to extreme events (a disaster) or even small events (a family loss). Even moving to a new home can change how you look at life. I know it did for me. I moved a lot as a kid and it allowed me to see different sides of life. Living very close with my family in a small apartment then transitioning to living in a big house and finding the time to be close and having the choice to be close. Personality is personal. It’s something each person must find for themselves and can change themselves. Your personality is who you want to be.

  1. The story makes sense and when you add the picture it gives me a clear idea of how this would play out and how life really is beautiful, even in dark times.

  2. Your flash fiction is works really well with your Self portrait. I do like how you included why the color was on your neck, I wish you had been more specific about that though. Why on the neck, is it you sing, you share information, there are soooo many thing that it could mean. I guess my question is, how do you make the world beautiful?

  3. I like how you're flash fiction brought up the fact that were told to change the world, but were never told how. And you're right, we have to figure it out on our own.

  4. I can totally relate to your flash fiction, and I can see just how well it correlates with your portrait. With the desire to change the world, comes a desire to discover yourself to. Doing one allows you to do the other. Awesome job with this, man.

This is who I am

The Outdoors They say the outdoors is a certain place that only a few groups of people like. They also say that its like home. You underestimate what you can see outdoors and what there is to discover beyond the trees. Most people don’t understand what it’s like to be far away civilization and what it's like to be separated from everyone. Where the nearest cell signal is 20 or more miles away. Some people don’t get the chance to get beyond the city or travel out to a national park or an area with scenic view. Some people say they can’t afford it but most the time you only need simple items to make it out in the outdoors or wilderness. They say it comes with many dangers that can affect someone permanently as a person or if they are by themselves. Everything you do outside will either come with a consequence or a positive feature. You can only live once and doing somethings outdoors can kill you. They still say that technology is destroying our national parks and destroying ...

Taller Mountains to Climb

Taller Mountains to Climb Made it this far, not knowing what the world could bring. Authors Note: I chose this picture of me in Colorado because I believe that there is a deeper meaning than me just standing on a rock. I think the rock can represent a strong start, but you can see in the background of the picture that there are bigger rocks to climb. I think this can relate to my life because I am about to graduate, which can be compared to the rock I am standing on. On the other hand, I know that there are bigger rocks and a bigger meaning to life than just high school. Although high school is a good start there is always those “bigger rocks” or bigger problems that I must climb over. I decided to use a longer 6-word story because it also explains the type of personality I have. I like things short, sweet, and to the point. Taking the class perspectives has opened my view of the deeper meaning in small things and realizing that our personalities reflect the perspec...

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity

Smile and Pursue happiness, not negativity Artist statement I pick this image because this shows my personality and my mood during my everyday life. The image and text work together to show you that I like to be happy and positive and not be negative all the time. The color and brightness work together to represent positivity.  Reflection People don’t think about that they have a bias. They don’t think about that because they don’t react, and they don’t think about what there saying or what they think about a certain person. For example, When I was a kid, I thought people were always respectful and kind to others and I thought that no one had a bias. I thought this because people were always nice when I said hi to them. People always opened the door for me and they always said thank you. Nice but I realized growing up people have a certain bias. For example, in perspectives, the class taught me that everyone has a bias and that everyone’s bias is different from other people a...
