Being the best i can be
Michael Lynch
Flash fiction
You want to be great at track and push yourself to be your best. You need to take the next step and keep pushing yourself, so you can strive to be a great runner. Pushing yourself in the weight room or on the track while sprinting is going to be very key to be the best runner that you want to be. You need to have a positive attitude about things you do, even if you lose at something, you got to pick yourself up and keep going. Positivity will help you in your races and in life in general, it’s a very great way to be. Also sticking to a healthy diet does very well help keep you energized and ready to put in the work you need to, so you perform your best in practice or races. It also helps you feel better during the day and you don’t feel super full and exhausted. Just all and all if you do the right things you will succeed at what you want to do. Staying focused on your goals is the main key.

Artist Statement
I choose this picture because it represents what I want to do and what I want to accomplish in this sport. It shows when I look at this picture that is all I think about is my goal, which is to get better at it and perform my best. It connects with my text because I say how and what I need to do this. It gives me the steps and things to do. It describes me a lot because I want to strive to get better and I am taking these steps to do that. They work together because the text explains what is happening in the picture, of how I know what to do to get to my goal. I think my work so far this year has been very good, and I am understanding the material. I think I could maybe write them with more info but other than that I am understanding it great.

Self-Reflection
*They:                 People think about bias as like someone should win even know they probably shouldn’t because they like them better or they prefer them more. That is an example of bias. This is what makes them bias towards someone. I think some people bias is not good because it could sway something and not make it fair. Also, some people think they aren’t bias in anyway which is wrong. People will want to be like this because if they are wrong about something, they will not feel good and might get in a bad mood. But the truth is people do have a bias for something even if they think they don’t.

*He/she:             I have listened and read a couple texts about bias, and what I have heard from them is people do have a bias. One podcast I listened to said things about bias referring to people thinking they don’t have a bias, but they really do. They said in the podcast, “people ignored test when it challenged their views”. This quote shows that people don’t want to believe that they have a bias towards something, but they do towards some things.
Another podcast that I saw was “How do we overcome bias”. It shows people have a hard time overcoming that problem. One thing they said was, “I leaned on a bias that I didn’t even know I had”. People even have bias they didn’t know they had because they don’t think they have any, but they show it when they don’t notice.

I say:                      My argument towards this topic is that people do have a bias, because there is always something that people do like or don’t like which creates a bias. It even says that in the podcasts that people really do even if they don’t notice it at all.

  1. Do you plan on participating in track when you go to college?

  2. I like how you added in your argument in the end of the writing and where is the picture?

  3. Where is your picture? I like how your artist statement describes how you push yourself. Tying to the flash fiction stating that you're "Being the best you can be". I would be able to understand your artist statement more if their was a picture. The description of it gives me an idea on what the image may be.

  6. Your reflection and flash fiction were both really well written. You do a great job of showing your passion for athletics and competitions and how much you choose to be involved. It really shows that you do try your best.

  7. Michael,

Even though I've had you before in class I don't think I understood how much of a part of your life track is. It's great when we have opportunities to hear more about each other's lives. For you, it's well-beyond the track season and even affects the way you eat and how you feel mentally. Maybe keep this topic in mind as we move closer to the 20 Time Project? Hmm.

I would have really liked to see your picture so it could tie everything together. You focus on a really important point from this unit which is that we need to accept that we have biases. Period. This precedes anything else we do with that information.

    Thanks for your thinking.

    Ms. Becker

Love and Passion

Flash Fiction And Artist Statement               Why? Why did you hit the ball so hard? What would you expect to happen? Why didn’t you listen? If you would have listened you would’ve probably not regret it. You hit that ball so hard over the net that day you couldn’t believe it. You were doing so well, you scored your team a goal, it made you feel loved hearing your teammates cheer and your family cheer. But when you walked to that penalty spot and hit that ball over the net you didn’t feel love anymore. You blamed yourself. When your captain told you if you wanted to take the penalty you could have said no. You wanted to prove yourself because people look down on you but you just proved that your just a mess up. You thought everyone was disappointed in you. You cried after the game because this is the sport you love and have a passion for. You felt empty. You lost your confidence. Professional players miss penalties. Don’t worr...

Self Conscience

Kaleb Wiebel You know, you should really stop arguing with yourself all the time. You must realize at some point that you’re probably the only person who thinks like this. At least it’s how you think in those rare instances when you decide to put any amount thought into something. Even then, you might not even decide to have a filter between your mouth and your brain. You do understand how stupid that makes you look right? Hey. Hey! You’re not even listening, are you? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------                 My piece depicts two faces in, what I intended to be, a one-sided argument. The face on the right is quite clearly the one doing the arguing, as he yells, mouth agape, eyes shut with frustration, at the face on the left, who appears calm, yet uncaring, disinterested even, in what the other has to say. The...
